Client Brief

Cross Refrigeration were selected following a competitive tender to install air conditioning equipment into Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge London. The hotel made a decision to air condition the bedrooms to meet guest demands. The air conditioning fit out took place in a live hotel situation and therefore due to its five star status, was very sensitive to any minor disruptions.

The Solution

The building was fitted out with Daikin VRV heat recovery air conditioning equipment to provide heating and cooling to 186 bedrooms and suites, each bedroom was fitted with independent simplified room controllers, the system has two I touch centralised controllers which provide a window for the client to override the room controllers and view the operation and diagnostics of the system.

An onsite fabrication plant was setup to facilitate the programme and the difficult nature of the project; bespoke sections of sheet metal ductwork were fabricated on site to prevent unnecessary delays between site and workshop.

The project was phased around multiple mini programmes to help the hotel over come the problem of having large numbers of rooms off line at any given time. On completion of each phase, the batches of rooms were handed over with the air conditioning systems running; the hotel guests could therefore benefit immediately from the newly air conditioned bedrooms.

Existing redundant services were removed and live existing services (fire alarm sensors and sounders, lighting, ventilation plant) were repositioned and upgraded as part of the installation

The Result

The guests in this five star hotel in central London now benefit from the comfort and control of a new Daikin VRV air conditioning system.
