The Templeton Garden – Air Conditioning Case Study

BACKGROUND

The Templeton Garden in Earls Court is a new boutique hotel in central London featuring 156 individually designed rooms and suites. The property combines contemporary comfort with distinctive design, appealing to both leisure and business travellers.

Cross were employed by Edgewater Contracts, the fit-out contractor, to deliver a complete Daikin VRV installation to serve all guest and back-of-house areas, ensuring an efficient and reliable climate control system throughout the building.

SOLUTION

The HVAC installation was engineered to deliver precision comfort, energy recovery, and long-term efficiency across the hotel.

Key elements of the solution included:

  • Seven Daikin VRV systems connected to 170 fan coil units (FCUs), providing simultaneous heating and cooling throughout bedrooms, suites, and shared areas.

  • Integration of six Daikin Hydro Boxes with the VRV systems to capture and recover waste heat from the refrigerant cycle. The recovered energy was redirected through the hydro box heat exchangers to generate domestic hot water for the building.

  • Hot water collected during peak air conditioning demand is stored in thermally insulated water tanks, ensuring efficient supply for guests and staff when required.

All systems were fully installed and commissioned by Cross’s dedicated team of installers, project managers, and commissioning engineers, ensuring seamless integration and performance.

OUTCOME

The completed installation delivered outstanding technical, operational, and sustainability benefits:

  • Comprehensive control integration, with all systems connected to a Daikin iTouch Manager platform for centralised monitoring, scheduling, and performance management.

  • Individual room controllers providing guests with simple, intuitive control over their own heating and cooling preferences.

  • Energy efficiency, achieved through heat recovery technology that reuses waste heat to generate domestic hot water, significantly lowering energy consumption.

  • Consistent comfort across all rooms and public spaces, with simultaneous heating and cooling capability.

  • Reduced operating costs, supported by Daikin’s variable refrigerant volume control and optimised load management.

  • Reliable long-term performance, enabled by a fully integrated, centrally managed system architecture.

The Templeton Garden now benefits from a sophisticated, low-carbon HVAC solution that enhances guest experience, improves operational control, and supports the hotel’s sustainability goals.
