CLIENT: MHL Hotel Collection
PROJECT: Moxy Belfast City
LOCATION: Belfast, Northern Ireland
VALUE: N/A
COMPLETED: September 2025
BACKGROUND
Moxy Belfast City has officially opened its doors – marking the arrival of Northern Ireland’s first Moxy Hotel and the 100th to open in the EMEA region.
Located on Clarence Street West and owned by the MHL Hotel Collection, the property has been completely transformed from the former Park Inn Hotel into a vibrant, design-led destination in the heart of Belfast.
Cross were engaged as part of the fit-out team to deliver a complete mechanical overhaul of the existing building, including the integration of new Daikin VRV systems while retaining and modifying key elements of the existing pipework.
The installation covered 179 bedrooms, alongside newly designed public spaces, bar, and reception areas – all of which are now fully air conditioned. The project also incorporated simultaneous heating and cooling functionality, ensuring optimal comfort in all spaces, along with dedicated air conditioning for the manager’s office and comms room.
SOLUTION
Cross delivered the HVAC system using a Daikin VRV and split-unit configuration designed to handle the entire building’s heating and cooling loads with precision and efficiency.
Key elements included:
-
Installation of 187 fan coil units across bedrooms and public spaces, complete with associated ductwork and grilles, providing precise and responsive comfort control.
-
7 Daikin VRV systems networked to intelligently balance load and demand, maximising energy efficiency through variable refrigerant volume control.
-
2 independent split systems dedicated to the IT and server rooms, ensuring reliable, precision cooling for critical equipment.
-
Integration of all systems into a Daikin iTouch Manager platform, enabling full centralised control, scheduling, and real-time monitoring.
This unified architecture allows the building to adapt to changing occupancy and environmental conditions while maintaining energy efficiency and user comfort.
OUTCOME
The completed installation provides clear technical and operational advantages for Moxy Belfast City:
-
Consistent climate control across all bedrooms and public areas, ensuring a stable and comfortable guest experience.
-
Dedicated resilience for critical systems, with independent cooling protecting IT infrastructure.
-
Reduced operating costs through advanced VRV scheduling and load management.
-
Simplified facility management, with the centralised iTouch Manager allowing staff to monitor and optimise system performance from one interface.
The result is a robust, energy-efficient, and intelligent HVAC solution that supports both operational excellence and guest satisfaction – delivering the flexible, easily controlled comfort that today’s competitive hotel market demands.
