Do and Co

Do & Co headquartered in Vienna, is a global leader in airline and event catering, including Formula 1 World Championship events.

Background

Comprehensive range of premium inflight catering services.

With 32 sites in every part of the world, Do& Co provide a comprehensive and premium range of inflight catering to meet all needs and expectations. With over 60 airline partners they maintain the reputation of quality expected from business and first-class air travel.

The new site at Heathrow was constructed to provide gourmet high-end business and first-class catering for leading global airlines, all with industry leading hygiene, and security.

Challenge

The 25,000m2 facility incorporates two main levels with an internal 'restricted zone' with full airport level security.

The Heathrorw facility incorporates commercial kitchens, storage and process areas as well as presentation areas and a culinary theatre for demonstrations and lectures.

The “restricted zone” has full security with scanning for goods and people that allow finished meals to go straight to the aircraft.

The project had a fast-track design and construction programme, with overlapping design stages for efficiency, and phased occupancy across the 2 floors.  The refrigeration systems were designed with flexibility in mind with in-built diversity for different temperature regimes.

Solution

With a total refrigeration duty of over 1MW, multiple DX refrigeration pack systems were installed for maximum flexibility, redundancy and future proofing.

Dual discharge coolers were used extensively due to the restricted ceiling height on the 1st floor.  The total refrigeration installation was delivered by Cross Group within the scope of the project programme and agreed budget.
