Do & Co Heathrow – Refrigeration Case Study

BACKGROUND

With 32 sites worldwide and over 60 airline partners, Do& Co provide a comprehensive and premium range of inflight solutions to meet all needs and expectations.  The new site at Heathrow was constructed to provide gourmet high-end business and first-class catering for leading global airlines.

CHALLENGES

The 25,000m2 facility incorporates two main levels of commercial kitchens, storage and process areas as well as presentation areas and a culinary theatre for demonstrations and lectures. An internal “restricted zone” with scanning for goods and people allows finished meals to go straight to the airfield.

The project had a fast-track design and construction programme, with overlapping design stages for efficiency, and phased occupancy across the 2 floors.  The refrigeration systems were designed with flexibility in mind with in-built diversity for different temperature regimes.

SOLUTION

With a total refrigeration duty of over 1MW, multiple DX refrigeration pack systems were installed for maximum flexibility, redundancy and future proofing.  Dual discharge coolers were used extensively due to the restricted ceiling height on the 1st floor.  The total refrigeration installation was delivered by Cross Group within the scope of the project programme and agreed budget.
